Green travel is growing

There is a growing awareness that the international train journeys are a welcome alternative to short-haul flights. Do you have Green ambitions? With NS International you don’t only travel quickly and comfortably, you also travel by one of the most sustainable means of transport on the medium distance. A true Win-win!

Mobility pollutes

Sustainable travel takes into account the environment, people and nature. Mobility, including air transport, accounts for 27% of all CO2 emissions in the Netherlands. Calculations by Milieu Centraal show that international train travel per passenger produces an average of 2 to 4 times lower CO2 emissions than a regular car trip for two people. Moreover, a train journey emits an average of 7 times lower emission per passenger than a flight to the same destination. And did you know that all trains in the Netherlands run on energy produced by windturbines?

Anders Reizen

NS, together with more than 70 large organisations, has teamed up in the Anders Reizen coalition. For example, organisations as ABN-AMRO, Rabobank, Schiphol-Group, ANWB, Philips, PWC, Vattenfall and Central Government all participate in ‘Anders Reizen’. Together they work on improving sustainability of business mobility. The ambition of Anders Reizen is to half the CO2 emissions of business travel by 2030 (compared to 2016).  In addition, they target to achieve a CO2 reduction of 25% CO2 in 2025 compared to 2019. Therefore 12 measures have been formulated to achieve the reduction target.

Employers do this, among other things, by no longer allowing to fly to appointments shorter than 3 hours flight duration. They will only allow to fly for distances further than 700 kilometers. Everyone travels in the most sustainable way for business, ‘travelling differently’ is becoming the new normal.
